All wrong, but so right!
Amy (fellow JV teammember) slept over last night, and she, Stani, and I all stumbled out of our beds before the sun was up so we could get to the Vienna airport in plenty of time to meet Janka. Janka, one of my students at the university, was flying back today after spending three months in the states working as an au-pair. I wanted to be sure to be at the airport when Janka walked through the doors from baggage claim, so we were leaving eary enough to have one full hour extra in case anything went wrong.Well…everything went wrong! About half-way to the airport, we were directed off of the main interstate due to flooding. We found ourselves in traffic that was moving approximately 20km per hour (less than 10 miles per hour), and we weren’t even sure we were going in the right direction because the signs took us off the highway, but then did not direct us as to where we should go! We called one of our team mates in Zilina, Gavin, who then navigated us through small winding roads that eventually, 2 hours later, led us back to the interstate.
Meanwhile, Janka was having troubles of her own (and of course, she didn’t have a phone, so she couldn’t call us). She had missed her flight in Frankfurt, and was almost 2 hours late herself!
Needless to say, when we found each other at the Vienna airport, we were both absolutely releived to find that the other one had encountered delays as well! Everything had gone wrong, but it worked out perfectly!
It is one of those moments that reminds me not to live with my eyes focused only on the moment. We are called to live fully in the moment but with our hearts focused on the eternal significance of those moments. And so many times, the things happening in the moment are going all wrong…but God…and only God…can make them all completely right in His timing.
