Work Project

Northstar TeamA team from Summit Church in Little Rock, Arkansas came to complete a work project at the university, fulfilling a prayer that we started praying more than a year ago! Thank you, Kyle, Bekah, Scott, Jennifer, Laura, and Hannah!

It all started November 9, 2005, on a train…I was going to the other end of the country with my teammates Gavin and Amanda and two students from the university, Mata and Vili. We were going to the eastern city, Košice, in order to meet with the leaders of a thriving college ministry. We were just beginning to form a ministry for college students, and we were in the research stage. On the train that day, we began dreaming of ways that we could serve the students of Žilina University. Vili and Mata began talking about how amazing it would be if we could somehow build a library/study room for the students in the English department. We decided that day to start praying for this. It took a little more than a year, but this team from Arkansas was the way that God decided to meet that need!

It’s always hard to find the words to describe the way God is working in a city, a school, a ministry, a person’s heart… And for this reason, I stumble as I try to describe the impact this project had on all of those things. I can tell you that the English department is planning a “grand opening” of the new study, and every time I enter the class building where I teach, someone asks me about the study, how it came to be built…why a team of people would come all the way here to do THAT… And that I’ve started meeting with two of the teachers in the department as a direct result of working on this project together…

I know that we will continue to see the results of this labor of love for a long time. I’ll keep you posted…
